# Living Carbon Announces Agreement with Microsoft for 1.4 Million Tonnes of Carbon Removal from Reforestation of Former Mine Lands in Appalachia

SAN FRANCISCO, April 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- [**Living Carbon**](/content/site-root.html) has announced that [**Microsoft**](https://www.microsoft.com/) has agreed to purchase 1.4 million tonnes of carbon removal credits from Living Carbon's reforestation projects.

## Project Details
The credits will be generated through Living Carbon's large-scale reforestation of 25,000 acres of degraded lands in the Appalachian region, particularly areas previously impacted by coal mining.

Living Carbon’s initiatives restore forest cover on former mine lands. This restoration delivers measurable carbon removal while providing co-benefits such as improved soil and water health, enhanced biodiversity, and new economic opportunities in underserved rural communities.
